ADfREAD.ME for file for APPLICATION DOCK V2.0 - 8/5/91
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's New:
-----------
- There now only need to be 16 program description lines in the APPDOCK.INI
file.
- Now if you specify a directory for Application Dock to look for it's
INI in, you must also specify the file name. (ex APPDOCK C:\APPDOCK.INI)
- You can now hide the dock.
- The Interactive Editor for Application Dock has had some bugs fixed and
had a few features added.
- Location setting is now in pixels.
Version History:
----------------
0.90 Initial version, never distributed. Conained basic structure only.
1.00 First version distributed on a very limited basis. Buggy, and hard
to work with.
1.01 All bugs from 1.0 fixed - now fully functional, except for limitation
on icons (only 8 available) and reminder boxes
1.20 Latest shareware release - updated with a few bugs corrected.
Limitation on number of icons removed, but startup reminder box
still present.
1.50 Initial registered version - included interactive Application Dock
editor v1.0 plus other small improvements.
1.60 Interim registered version - never distributed - Application Dock
Interactive Editor v1.1, ability to minimize dock, and option to
run a program not in dock.
2.00 Latest ShareWare version as of 8/5/91 - Sizing bug fixed.
2.10 Latest Registered version as of 8/5/91 - Application Dock Editor 2.1
introduced - bug fixes in both dock and editor programs - base for
future enhancement.
Known Bugs At This Point:
-------------------------
- Currently the program cannot be set as the system shell. This is due to
some bug in Visual Basic, and not in my programming. Again, I await a fix
from Microsoft.
What's In the Future:
---------------------
- Support for multiple INI files.
- The ability to get icons directly from application files.
- Auto detection of Video Mode and resolution to eliminate need for location
settings in APPDOCK.INI.
- An optional parameter prompt before running a program.
- On-line help via Windows Help.
- A complete re-write of the Application Dock Editor.
- Larger and more diverse sample icon library.
- MUCH better Keyboard support.
- Improved dock display.
Information That Did Not Make It Into The Manual:
-------------------------------------------------
Exiting Windows
Currently, Application Dock cannot be used as the system shell, due
to a problem with Visual Basic, but it works very well then run when
Windows is started up. (place in run= section of WIN.INI) One of the
things that came up in beta testing was the suggestion that it would
be helpful to be able to exit windows from the dock. While I cannot
do this inside of Visual Basic, I did bundle a utility from Dragon's
Eye Software, that when run, exits windows. You can use this, and
the icon I put on the disk for a handy solution to this problem.
